is there any sense of fairness?

These past few weeks I’ve been struggling with the shrinking population of couples in long distance relationships, mainly how it affects me, one of the few still in one.
I’ve been friends with many people in long distance relationships, people who have broken up, moved in together, transferred so they can be closer, etc. I have [...]

mix-up

I saw a girl wearing an RIT shirt and for a moment it seemed so obvious and natural, I felt a sense of comradeship with her, this girl who might have been there and seen the towering metal statues, the wide expanses of grass, the open brick corridors carrying wind on their backs.
I doubt i’d [...]

apart

at midnight, there will be a week between you and i.
i will be surrounded by people and noise and raucousness and livery, but i will be listening for you to find me, in the midst of your own people and noise and raucousness.
i have been there, in the boys’ apartment covered with stolen street signs [...]

foreshadowing

the sunlight makes silver the roofs of the dark-windowed buildings, stabbing the shingles in the silence.
the bricks shadow themselves, as in a cold fireplace flanked by black iron pokers, shovels and brooms to manipulate the absent heat.
green sneaks away as if knowing, knowing,
and the sun lies low in the salty sky, an empty white disk [...]

fall to winter…WHAT

so krista informed me on tuesday that the class listings for next semester opened this week, causing two distinct emotions:
1) joy because i’m a loser and like to pick out new classes

I went to Rochester this past weekend and loved it, loved being with my baby. His co-op is coming along rather well and he’s going to Warwick for an interview at the company on November 30th which I may attend. So chances are we’ll [...]

i

i am myself: braless, hairless, with pen in hand and book at my side.
i walk with a stomp in my step, listening to songs my youth demanded years ago.
i am proudfully disdainful of dyed-blond hair and designer bags.
i laugh at girls riding bikes in espadrilles, but i’d wear them and be unabashed at my height.
i [...]

momento mori

Drifts of water stand over the roses,
fearfully eyeing the above;
they thirst, but with too small mouths.
